“BOUND WITH CHAINS AND… SLEEPING”

“BOUND WITH CHAINS AND… SLEEPING”

And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers.
Acts 12:6 - NKJV

Every time I read this passage I try to picture this scene. How is it possible to fall asleep bound with chains between two soldiers? It must have been quite an experience! King Herod had just killed the Apostle James, and now Peter was also in prison, with the possibility of his execution to be the main attraction in one more of Herod’s horror spectacles. While the church constantly prayed for him as we read in the text, Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains because of the Gospel.

My point is: how can we, servants of the Lord, be at peace to the point of being sleeping, even when cornered or trapped by all kinds of problems, threats, fear, and even the possibility of death?

Peter found the answer for that question in a little boat filled with terrified disciples crossing the Sea of Galilee not very long ago, when the Lord Jesus Christ, exhausted for His unstoppable work, was found sleeping in the middle of a storm. Peter had learned very well the lesson with His Master, that even amongst the worst scenario, God is still the King of the universe.

No matter what our situation is today, let’s trust the Lord and be still, let’s stay in peace and not lose heart or sleep over circumstances that are, for sure, totally under His power and control.

I leave with you three verses of another man of God, who learned to trust in the Lord, even when surrounded by all kinds of trouble, our brother King David:

Psalm 4:8
I will both lie down in peace, and sleep; for You alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.

Psalm 3:5-6
I lay down and slept; I awoke, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people Who have set themselves against me all around.

Wishing many blessings to you and your family!
