GET UP

GET UP

“So David arose from the ground, washed and anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he went into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he went to his own house; and when he requested, they set food before him, and he ate.”

2 Samuel 12:20

The trajectory of David has always fascinated me. One of the marks in David’s life is his capacity to value presence over position, in the sense that if the Lord was happy and present, it did not matter much if David was pastoring in the fields, running from his enemies in a cave or surrounded with all the perks of a palace.
The text we have today shows one of many difficult moments in David’s life. His infant son had just died, someone for whom he spent several days praying, fasting and asking the favor of the Lord. But the Almighty God decided to do something different than David’s plea, and the baby died.
What happened next should be a lesson for all of us. For the amazement and perplexity of all, David arose from the ground, took a long shower, changed his clothes, put a cologne and went to worship in the house of the Lord, and then went to his house and ate a delicious meal. He decided to take control of his life again.

We should reflect always about the need to shake the old and live the new things the Lord has in store for us. The year of 2020 has been one of the most difficult, and yes, some of its repercussions are still present today but we cannot definitely just sit down and mourn forever. I believe it’s time to get up and run the course the Lord has for our lives. I am sure our God still has many things to do that demand each one of us to raise in faith and expectation that the best is yet to come.

Interestingly, after all these events, the Lord granted David and Bathsheba another child, who not only lived a long life but also became the most important king Israel had ever (second to his father) - Solomon, and it was Solomon himself who teaches us in Ecclesiastes that “there is a time to weep, and a time to laugh, a time to mourn, and a time to dance.” He certainly learned that with his father David.

I am not sure which season of your life you are in, but it is important to seek the Lord for guidance and wisdom, and maybe it is time for you to shake up the dust, move on with your life, and serve the Lord with all you have.

Wishing many blessings to you and your family!
