“DIG SOMEWHERE ELSE”

“DIG SOMEWHERE ELSE

Beloved Unchained Family, highly estimated friends:

Have you ever realized that when talking about the Bible Patriarchs, we often refer to Abraham, Jacob and even Joseph, but very seldom speak about Isaac? For some reason, the “son of the promise” is mentioned only as “Abraham’s son”, or the “boy who was almost offered in sacrifice”. Isaac is the “skipped patriarch”, and his great achievements, even being numerous, are not very well known. Do you know, for example, that Isaac prayed for his sterile wife Rebecca for 20 years, and the Lord granted his request?
Genesis chapter 26 tells the story of when Isaac lived in the land of the Philistines, and he owned a great deal of livestock, but every time he would dig a well in order to provide for his business and family, the enemy would cowardly clog it. For at least three times, we see Isaac moving away and digging somewhere else, until he finally found a place where he could enjoy peace.
It is absolutely noteworthy that all those wells belonged to Isaac by inheritance, he could have fought and made a big issue with all of that absurd situation, nonetheless, Isaac would never stop digging, instead, he decided to move straight to the next one.

Allow me to be bold and tell you that at times some battles are NOT worth fighting. Sometimes the best strategy is to move to the next stage in life until we find our own “Rehoboth well”, our “wide place with plenty of rooms”, as it happened to Isaac.
Peace was at the center of Isaac’s life: he wouldn’t confront his brother Ishmael when provoked (Gen 21:9), and he wouldn’t even fight after being deceived by his own son Jacob, who wanted to steal the blessing of the firstborn. No, Isaac knew better, he knew when to pick a combat. But because of that, because of his peacemaking spirit (instead of a belligerent one), and for the astonishment and dismay of his enemies, the Lord blessed him so supernaturally and tremendously, to the point that he became the kind of farmer who would sow and reap a hundredfold (Gen 26:12), under the favor of the God.

My dear friend, in this long journey called life, there will be times of fighting, but there will be also some other times, where the best strategy will be to let go, and keep moving on, until your perfect well is found. Meanswhile, keep digging, because the blessing will come!

Wishing peace, health and many blessings to your body and soul,

Pr. Joshua
