“HE HAS HIS WAY IN THE STORM”

“HE HAS HIS WAY IN THE STORM”

Beloved Unchained Family, highly estimated friends:

We read in Nahum 1.3:

“The Lord has His way In the whirlwind and in the storm,
And the clouds are the dust of His feet.”

Storms are scary, whether on sea or solid ground.

Metaphors of storms being compared to trials and difficult situations in life experienced by Christians is common ground. Even though no one likes to be in a stormy season, they are rather unavoidable, unpredictable, and spare no one.

However, if we cannot prevent them, we can surely learn from the storms, and even the Lord Jesus in His earthly ministry, had to deal with them, some at the sea (Lake of Gennesaret) and others on solid ground as well.

Let’s examine some lessons we can learn from the storms:

1. STORMS SHOW WHO IS IN CONTROL

During a storm, we face power outages, we see unrooted trees falling down, and not seldom we observe floating automobiles and even sea vessels adrift. The truth is, men have actually no power against raging storms, which are a powerful and undeniable display of how impotent we are, unless supported by the mighty hand of the Lord.

In a similar way, storms of life bring the humility that can help us to submit ourselves to the “potent hand of God” and experience His grace and favor towards us.

2. STORMS PUT OUR VULNERABLE SPOTS IN EVIDENCE

Amidst a storm, it’s common to see otherwise undetected leaks, defected roofs and spots that otherwise would be imperceptible. But the storms magnify and put all of these blemishes in evidence, and help us to see in a proper perspective things that are fragile and in need of repair and attention in our lives.

3. STORMS TAKE THE TRASH AWAY

When the storm is at its top magnitude and strength, it’s possible to see manhole lids dislocated and overflowing trash everywhere. During our walk in this life, it is possible to become hoarders of filthy habits that from time to time have to go. The Lord can use a storm to do just that.

4. IT’S IN THE STORM THAT THE BRAVE ARE KNOWN

It’s always amazing to see that during some strong storms, not everyone is willing to help, by the opposite, some will run and hide as fast as they can, and sooner than later you will be able to learn about those who will quickly “abandon the ship”. Nevertheless, those who endure the winds and the waters are the same who will be stronger and better prepared the next time they come.

5. AFTER THE STORM, THE SUN ALWAYS SHINES AGAIN

No matter how strong a storm may be, it is certain that the waters and winds will not prevail forever. Like in Noah’s experience after the Flood, the sun will be back again. We may be experiencing very hard whirlwinds right now, but if we hang in there long enough, we for sure will be able to see the rainbow and sunshine again.

6. THE STORMS WILL ALWAYS BE BACK

To expect the “bad day” is not about jinxing or cursing, it’s about life. Storms are part of our lives and will definitely come, and the more we know about them, the more prepared we will be for it. Our hope and comfort lies in that the Lord Jesus is the Master even of the storms, and He promised to be with us when we go “through the waters”.

My dear friend who reads this today, if at this very moment you feel powerlessly caught up in the whirlwind of life and tossed from one bad situation to another, the Word of God has a special promise for you, found in Isaiah 43:15-16:

“I am the Lord, your Holy One, The Creator of Israel, your King.
Thus says the Lord,
who makes a way in the sea, and a path through the mighty waters”.

The Lord can make a way for you!! If your tempest is in the sea, let the Lord Jesus be your Captain, for in the same manner He saved His disciples and so many times stood with the apostle Paul during his shipwrecks, you also will surely be led safely to the shore. But, if the storm you are facing is on firm ground, let Jesus be the cornerstone upon Whom you will build your house, because “even when the rain descends, the floods come and the winds blow and beat your house, it will not be shaken, because it is founded on the Rock”.

Wishing peace, health and many blessings to your body and soul,
Pr. Joshua
